The Joys are a gospel trio from Virginia Beach, Virginia. With a musical heritage that began in the early 1960’s James and Vicki Addison along with Kim Johnson continue to minister “with songs, hymns and spiritual songs singing...to the Lord.” (Eph.5:10) The Joys have recorded five projects with the current group members. REJOICE! is their latest release.

Vicki Addison began singing with The Joys as a teenager. She joined her father, Blackie Spangler, who had been singing with the Joy Quartet since the early 1960’s. Vicki sings soprano. She is the choir director at her church. She is the secretary for the Tidewater Gospel Music Association and serves on the convention board. Vicki works with Towne Bank in Virginia Beach.

James Addison joined The Joys, four years after Vicki, as the group’s pianist. Later he began to sing as well as play for the group. James sings tenor. He is also a talented song writer. James has penned many songs recorded by The Joys. The song Once a Sinner is a beautiful ballad and one of the most requested songs that The Joys sing. James has produced projects for some local artists. He serves in the music ministry at his church playing the piano and keyboards as well as singing.  James works for Bank of America.

Kim Johnson is the alto for The Joys. She grew up singing with her family, the Johnson Sisters Trio and the Good News Family Singers.She has a degree in Sacred Music from Southeastern FWB College. Kim joined James and Vicki in February of 1991. She teaches in Virginia Beach. She is the worship leader/choir director at her church. She has also served on the convention board for the Tidewater Gospel Music Association.
